The clients asked us to add some personality to the triple-room guest bath (two half-baths with a steam shower in between). The existing materials were handsome for a courthouse--charcoal gray walls, granite countertops, dark cherry cabinets—but they lacked warmth for a residence. As we pondered the solution, the clients’ four rescue dogs bounded through one set of double doors and out another, and then they ran out onto their playground: eighty-five acres overlooking the Pacific Ocean. There was our design concept: DOGS! We found original paintings from online sources, added colorful towel sets, and recovered the bench outside the steam shower with indoor/outdoor fabric from the William Wegman line of dog-inspired fabrics. Soap dishes were small ceramic dog food bowls.
