Napa KitchenThe generic twenty-year-old kitchen is common in California developments: 6" white countertop tile with brown grout lines, oak cabinets, fluorescent light box in the ceiling. Cabinets were re-purposed for the garage. The ceiling was lifted to the rafters for an angled vaulted ceiling contiguous with the dining room, allowing the drum fluorescent ceiling pendants to march through both rooms. Bamboo horizontal-grain cabinetry features tilt-up hinged, upper cabinet doors. Handmade raku tiles crafted by Oakland artist Phyllis Pacin are incorporated into an aubergine ceramic tile splash. Gold and orange Jurassic granite countertop complete the Napa Valley harvest color scheme for this prize-winning chef's kitchen. |
