Pescadero Beach House

The cabinets are stocked with ingredients for chocolate chip cookies on any given weekend, whipped together with the lemon-colored KitchenAid mixer at the ready. This practical weekend getaway home has seen many slumber parties for the girls and their friends, as well as wine-tastings for the grownups. Counter stools at the round end of the island provide a hangout for late-night snacks or morning breakfast.

Materials reflect the contemporary arts-and-crafts design, featuring hand-glazed tiles in water and earth tones, sandy beach pattern in the granite, and cherry cabinets. Heavy bronze hardware was selected for the house metal, used for knobs, switchplates, light fixtures, and door hardware. The kitchen opens to the front yard through double doors on one side and to the dining room on the other side, which opens to the back yard: the rocky shoreline of the Pacific Ocean.
